About the program

Enhancing employability opportunities for graduating students is imperative, given the demand for employability skills and for the overall socio-economic development of the country. As of April 2024, India's unemployment rate has risen to 8.1%, and the youth unemployment rate, particularly among graduates, is significantly higher at 29%. Skill development initiatives that focus on employability skills are crucial to addressing this issue and tapping into the true potential of the youth of India.

ICT Academy in association with Infosys Foundation organised the “Infosys Foundation – Finishing School for Employability” for students pursuing their final year of engineering, arts, and science across India, by establishing the ‘Centre of Excellence for Women and Youth Empowerment’

The program aims to help students acquire employability skills in IT, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), retail, e-commerce, logistics and knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) sectors, that will enable them to sustain in this competitive job market. This initiative will also significantly boost economic growth and improve the quality of life for thousands of families.

Objectives

Graduates will possess the necessary skills to meet the demands of the job market

Learn effective job search methods, including résumé writing, leveraging job platforms, customize job applications, improve the ability to navigate listings, and job interview skills through mock interviews and feedback sessions

Ensure that students are proficient in relevant technical tools and software, and develop the capability to adapt to new technologies and digital platforms.

Master the art of business communication, problem-solving, and develop interpersonal skills

Enhance career awareness to set career goals, create action plans, to make informed career choices.

Activities of finishing school for employability

Establishing a Centre of Excellence for Women Empowerment / Centre of Excellence for Youth Empowerment in each institution.

Provide training for in-demand courses, for students in their final year, designed to enhance employability skills.

Hands-on instructor-led training in industry-endorsed curriculum in advanced IT, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) , retail, ecommerce, logistics and knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) sector-related courses.

Two faculty members per college will be trained and assigned the role of mentors.

Engage students with hackathons to foster innovation, collaboration, and skill development by challenging participants to solve real-world problems creatively and efficiently.

Organise Virtual Youth Empowerment Summit to gain insights into emerging technologies.

Infosys employees will volunteer as experts, providing students with mentorship, real-world insights, and valuable professional connections.

Assessment and joint certification by ICT Academy and Infosys Foundation.

Facilitate placements to certified students.

Courses

Students will be trained in any of the preferred courses along with mandatory soft skills training.

Selection criteria


Students, especially women in their final year of engineering, arts and science from underprivileged communities who match any of the criterion mentioned below, can apply:
  • Students whose family income is below the threshold for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
  • Students with single parents
  • Student supported by a guardian
  • Specially abled students
  • First-generation graduates
  • Finishing School for Employability

    About ICT Academy


    ICT Academy is an initiative of the Government of India in collaboration with the state Governments and Industries. ICT Academy is a not-for-profit society, the first of its kind pioneer venture under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model that endeavours to train higher education teachers and students thereby exercising on developing the next generation teachers and industry-ready students.

    ICT Academy was started to meet the skill requirements of the industry and generate more employment, especially in tier 2 and 3 towns, the rural parts of the country.
